Don't compare yourself to others. We all are different ages and weigh different amounts and have different histories when it comes to exercising. Pick something you like to do and do it! Don't think of yourself as making yourself exercise---think of it as something you really like to do. Just because I swim a mile doesn't mean your efforts are worthless. They're not! It's a start and you will get better and do more as you become more physically fit. Compare yourself only to yourself. One thing I find that helps is to get a large calendar and write on it what I do everyday. Hah! Just the act of writing down my exercise makes me feel as if I have accomplished something! It's a tangible way to see my progress.
Walking is great exercise and you'll sleep better at night, too.
